Rachel Sierra
A young Rachel would put on shows for her family any time they gathered. “On my 5th birthday, I had friends over and choreographed a performance for the adults. I wore my Burger King crown and made all my friends dance behind me,” she laughs.
Coming from a musical family also influenced young Rachel. “My dad was in a band for 30 years, and my Uncle is a world famous pianist and conductor for the LA Chamber Orchestra.” In her teen years, she became obsessed with the 60’s and 70’s – “My parents always told me I am an old soul and should have been born in the 60’s.” Her love for this music permeates her newest material.
Recalling sounds from the analog era – synths, big drum sounds and more – PUSH ME is the sonic embodiment of freedom and fun. Rachel’s impressive command of the language of music is evident throughout: “JAMMIN’” sets the tone with a Disco-Funk bass line and sexy Mick Jagger inspired high notes. “MOVE” and “HYPNOTIZE” are quintessential Rock-n-Roll anthems showcasing Rachel’s dramatic vocal range. The title track and first single “PUSH ME”, flaunts a seductive vocal hook driven by a sinister fuzz bassline and organic electronica .The album is well rounded by a sultry, bluesy side with the eerie and soulful “LIVING WITHOUT YOU” and the classic R&B ballad “IF I SAY (LOVE IS REAL)”.
Rachel was originally concerned that PUSH ME would be too different from her last record, but she had faith in the music and her ability to evolve. Most of the record was written in the course of a week and her new sound was polished over three months of literally living in the studio. Rachel tried lots of new things on this release working with producers Edward Peifer and Joaquin Sanchez of Black Market Corp. Casey and Mike Sullivan of The Model Pilots also contributed to various tracks. Rachel says of the album, “It’s really diverse and will appeal to both pop and indie crowds. We blended the sounds of Disco, Rock, Blues and R&B … and then some.”
